Autonomy and dialogue during creation: A qualitative study on the experiences of creation in dance of a group of students

Palpán S.M.C.; Castro L.G. · Artseduca (2020) · DOI: 10.6035/artseduca.2020.27.5

Resumen

Although the central activity of contemporary dance is creation, there is no single established way to create. This problem brings with it the difficulty of teaching to create in dance. Departing from this issue, this research aims to explore and to describe the experiences in the processes of creation of a group of students of the Dance specialty of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP, by its acronym in Spanish). Eleven interviews were conducted to final year dance students. As a result, three factors that influence the experience of these experiences were identified: The degree of autonomy that students have for the creation of pieces, the type of relationships that they establish with their teachers / directors, which varies according to said degree of autonomy, and the communication that is established between the participants of the creative process.
