Resumen

Physical activity is fundamental for overall well-being and health, but it is often neglected by university students due to academic demands. During university years, many students experience a decrease in their levels of physical activity, influenced by intense study schedules, lifestyle changes, and increased independence. This shift often leads to an increase in sedentary habits, which can have negative consequences for their physical and mental health. This research aimed to describe the levels of physical activity among university students in the Peruvian Amazon. A descriptive quantitative study with a cross-sectional design and group comparison was conducted, using a sample of 280 university students. Data collection utilized the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), an instrument with adequate metric properties. The results indicated that 60.5% of students reported moderate levels of physical activity, 32.1% reported high levels, and 7.4% reported low levels. Additionally, a statistically significant association was found between physical activity levels and gender, age, and major. It was concluded that most university students in the Peruvian Amazon engaged in moderate levels of physical activity. Therefore, it is recommended that universities promote physical activity by integrating programs and policies that encourage a healthy lifestyle among students. © Copyright: Federación Española de Asociaciones de Docentes de Educación Física (FEADEF)
