Artificial Intelligence in the Judicial Function: Systematic Review of the Literature and Its Implications in the CURIA ChatBot Case

Barragán Huamán H.Y. · Revista de la Facultad de Derecho y Ciencias Politicas (2025) · DOI: 10.18566/rfdcp.v55n143.a9

Resumen

This study consists of a systematic review of the literature on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the judicial sphere, with the aim of analyzing their impact on the efficiency of the administration of justice, legal information management, and decision-making support. In this context, various AI-based assistance systems are examined, including the CURIA ChatBot implemented by the Peruvian Judiciary, designed as a specialized tool for intelligent legal research, whose purpose is to assist justice system operators without replacing the judicial function or the decision-making authority of judges. The research adopts a qualitative approach through a systematic review of scientific studies published in high-quality, prestigious international databases between 2020 and 2026. The results indicate that applications based on natural language processing, big data, and AI models help reduce the judicial workload and improve access to legal information and case law. However, risks related to algorithmic bias, transparency, data protection, and judicial independence are also identified. The study offers a critical and systematic assessment of the integration of AI into the judicial function and proposes criteria for its responsible implementation.
