Artificial intelligence and the intelligence we need to strengthen the healthcare system

Solari L. · Anales de la Facultad de Medicina (2025) · DOI: 10.15381/anales.v86i2.30789

Resumen

Healthcare tools based on Artificial intelligence (AI) have been developed and implemented increasingly in the last years and promise to continue expanding across the health systems. There are several opportunities for AI-generated models to optimize healthcare; however, it is necessary to understand how they work, the challenges they imply, and the kind of information that can really demonstrate their utility. Regarding this element, local clinical validation is key, because models developed for other populations are not necessarily directly applicable to our context. In order to ensure that these technologies are correctly implemented, we need a flexible but comprehensive regulatory framework and coordinated efforts to ensure that these tools provide valuable support to the labor performed by healthcare personnel, rather than aiming at replacing them. © (2025), (Anales de la Facultad de Medicina).
