Resumen
The main objective of this research was to determine the relationship between opinion articles and communication competence, specifically the ability to write various types of texts in one's native language, in fifth-grade secondary students. The study followed a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational design. Data was collected through direct observation, using a evaluative checklist as the instrument. The population consisted of fifth-grade secondary students at the Rafael Narváez Cadenillas Educational Center of the National University of Trujillo, with a sample size of 33 students. The main results indicate that the level of writing opinion articles is medium for 51.5% of the students, while the level of achievement in the evaluated communication competence is medium for 57.6% of the students. A correlation coefficient of 94% was determined between these variables. The main conclusion was that opinion articles are highly related to the competence of writing various types of texts in one's native language for secondary education students in the Regular Basic Education (EBR) system of the Peruvian educational system.
