Resumen
Approach and avoidance tendencies allow for an understanding of personality and psychopathology. The present study describes the psychometric properties of the first Spanish version of the Approach-Avoidance Temperament Questionnaire (ATQ). Method: An instrumental design was used to analyze the internal structure and obtain evidence of reliability, as well as validity through its relationship with other variables. A total of 359 young Peruvian adults (M = 21.57, SD = 2.46) participated, the majority of whom were females (57.1 %). Results: The findings indicate an adequate fit for a correlated two-factor structure, consistent with both temperaments. The ATQ demonstrated high internal consistency in both dimensions. Avoidance temperament was positively associated with traumatic experiences and childhood emotion invalidation, while approach temperament was negatively related to paternal invalidation. Conclusion: The Spanish version of the ATQ constitutes a promising tool for personality research in Latin American contexts.
