Application of Scrumban in the execution of single-family homes in Lima, Peru to optimize construction times

Anyosa J.; Boza R.; Barraza G. · Congreso Internacional de Innovacion y Tendencias en Ingenieria, CONIITI (2024) · DOI: 10.1109/coniiti64189.2024.10854871

Resumen

Currently, the construction industry predominantly employs traditional methodology as a project management framework due to the sequential nature of construction. However, this methodology does not focus much on delivering value to the customer. Faced with such issues, the software industry adopted agile methodology many years ago as a project management system. While the construction industry is constantly seeking continuous improvement and good communication with clients, there is limited information on applying agile methodology as a solution to the customer value delivery problem. Precisely, the Scrumban framework is an alternative solution that enhances team communication and improves activity planning through a dynamic board that visualizes the tasks to be performed according to customer requirements. In this article, Scrumban is adapted to a single-family housing project to optimize execution time, as timely project delivery was central to the customer. Thus, considering the SPI (Schedule Performance Index) metric, an improvement from 0.81 to 0.87 in work progress was achieved, and delays in construction were mitigated, resulting in a 1-day advancement compared to the planned schedule.
