Resumen
The aim of this research work was to determine the antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella enterica isolated from cloacal swabs of fighting birds. In total, 135 samples of fighting birds from a breeding shed in the district of Carabayllo, Lima, were evaluated. Three Salmonella enterica isolates were identified, representing 2.2% (95% CI: 0-4.71%) of the total samples. Late enrichment in Rappaport-Vassiliadis broth was more efficient in isolating the bacteria. Using the disk diffusion test with the Kirby Bauer method with 16 antibiotics, it was found that 100% (3/3) of the isolates were resistant to clindamycin, erythromycin, penicillin and streptomycin, and 66.7% (2/3) to oxytetracycline, ampicillin and doxycycline. This represents a worrying perspective, since these antibiotics are alternatives for the therapy against this type of bacterial infections. ©Los autores.
