Resumen
Aim. To determine the antifungal activity of the ethanolic extract of Plumbago scandens L. on the growth of Candida albicans isolated from obstetric patients. Material and methods. An experimental study with an increasing stimulus design was performed. The sample consisted of six strains of C. albicans fungi isolated from patients who presented candidiasis and who were treated at the Obstetrics Service of the Las Mercedes Regional Teaching Hospital. Three repetitions were used for each of the three concentrations (4, 6 and 8 μg/mL) of ethanolic extract from the roots of P. scandens L. To obtain this effect, the susceptibility test of C. albicans was carried out in Muller-Hinton agar. Results. It was found that the halo length of the conrol group was significantly different (p < 0.01) from the halo length for the other three concentrations, the average halo length for the 4 μg/uL concentration was 3.44 cm., for 6 μg/uL it was 3.68 cm, and for 8 μg/uL it was 4.0 cm. Conclusions. The ethanolic extract of Plumbago scandens var. Linnaeus presents an inhibitory effect on the growth of Candida albicans.
