Anti-reflective coating of silver nanoparticles to improve the efficiency of ultra-thin amorphous silicon solar cells

Velasquez Perez H.; Cayas Diaz A.; Lopez Cabanillas L.; Castillo Correa C. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2025) · DOI: 10.18687/laccei2025.1.1.2125

Resumen

This study analyses the implementation of an anti-reflective coating based on silver nanoparticles to improve the efficiency of ultra-thin amorphous silicon solar cells. The absorption limits of these cells are addressed and the effect of nanoparticle induced optical scattering on the improvement of light collection is investigated. The Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method is used to simulate the interaction between incident radiation and nanoparticles and to evaluate its influence on electric field enhancement and conversion efficiency. The results show that the optimal arrangement of the nanoparticles reduces the optical losses and increases the efficiency of the device. It is concluded that the integration of metallic nanoparticles is a promising strategy for optimize the performance of thin-film solar cells, opening up new possibilities for the development of more efficient and affordable photovoltaic technologies.
