Resumen
The flow of foreign capital into a country is an issue of great relevance for economic and political studies, since it constitutes an important source of resources for the development of emerging economies. The objective of the research was to identify the factors that determine Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Peru during the period 2012–2021. The research was non-experimental, correlational explanatory level of longitudinal design. For this purpose, a multiple linear regression model was used with data from the Central Reserve Bank of Peru and the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics. The results show that the independent variables of the regression model (inflation, economically active population, country risk, exchange rate and terms of trade), explain approximately 86.1% of the variability of FDI arriving to the country. This study concludes that only country risk, exchange rate and terms of trade are statistically significant variables that explain the variability of FDI in Peru. In addition, based on the analysis and review of the current situation of the main indicators related to FDI in Peru, this study highlights that political instability is a factor external to the variables studied that influences foreign direct investment, which should be worked on in order to strengthen the confidence of foreign investors. © (2024), (Universidad Alberto Hurtado).
