Gideon Anthony S.P.; Angela Maria V.Y. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2024) · DOI: 10.18687/leird2024.1.1.426

Resumen

This research on the diversification of pet food imports is important due to the large market growth generating an increase in imports into the country, helping to strengthen the country's economy. Therefore, the general objective is to analyze the diversification of the countries supplying pet food imports in Peru 2014 - 2023. The methodology to be used is of a basic type, with a quantitative approach, descriptive scope and non-experimental - transversal design. A documentary analysis was carried out with data obtained from INFOTRADE to evaluate imports and the level of concentration through the years 2014 - 2023, therefore the Herfindahl-Hirschman index will be used. A growth of 9.07% is observed with respect to FOB value, 4.71% in net weight and 5.15% in price, a concentration in supplier countries highlighting Argentina, however, it is in the process of diversification. On the other hand, with respect to companies, there is an overwhelming concentration of Nestlé. It is recommended that regional governments encourage investment in local production, promoting innovation and the development of new pet products.
