An explanatory model of intimate partner violence among peruvian women: Social and health implications

Rivas C.A.F.; Quiroz F.J.R.; del Pilar Díaz Gamarra P. · International Journal of Psychological Research (2026) · DOI: 10.21500/20112084.8337

Resumen

The aim of this study was to analyze the explanatory capacity of emotional dependence and jealousy on intimate partner violence among Peruvian women. A convenience sampling procedure was used, resulting in a sample of 356 women. The research employed an empirical approach with an associative strategy design, specifically an explanatory study using structural equation modeling. The Brief Jealousy Scale, the Emotional Dependence Questionnaire, and the Reduced Dating Violence Questionnaire were used as measurement instruments. The analyses confirmed the independence of the variables and showed an adequate fit of the theoretical model (χ2(133) = 391.384, p < .001, CFI = .92, TLI = .91, RMSEA = .07, SRMR = .07). The results revealed that jealousy and emotional dependence accounted for 52% of the variance in intimate partner violence. In conclusion, the study underscores the need to address jealousy and emotional dependence in order to prevent partner violence, highlighting the importance of interventions targeting these factors to reduce violence against women in Peru.
