Advances and trends in industrial combustion to improve efficiency in hot rolling processes: A Systematic Review

Angel Rapahel Q.-L.; Eddier Albino F.-I. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2025) · DOI: 10.18687/laccei2025.1.1.2029

Resumen

This study performs a systematic review of the literature on technologies based on the use of pure oxygen in the combustion process in hot rolling reheating furnaces with a focus on improving combustion efficiency and productivity. The search for information was carried out in the Scopus database, where 18 articles were identified and selected using the PRISMA and PICO methods. Subsequently, a bibliometric analysis was performed to obtain a deeper insight into the research carried out on oxygen enrichment and oxycombustion as technologies in heating processes. Tools such as VOSviewer were used to visualize the cooperation between researchers from different countries in the related scientific production and Bibliometrix to graphically represent the countries with the highest scientific production. The study investigates the 3 methods of using oxygen in the combustion process, which are oxygen enrichment in the combustion air pipe, oxygen lances and oxycombustion, which requires special burners for its use. The different methods are compared and the benefits, advantages and disadvantages of using these technologies are analyzed, as well as some results of efficiencies achieved by experimental research and simulators. Finally, the importance of controlling process variables in furnaces to achieve success in improving combustion efficiency and productivity when using these technologies is explored.
