Resumen
Surgical site infections (SSI) are one of the most commonly reported healthcareassociated infections worldwide and have adverse effects on patient health and hospital resources. There are several risk factors to develop SSI and include malnutrition. A large part of all patients in the hospital are at nutritional risk, the prevalence of malnutrition is up to 50-55%. Due to this high prevalence current recommendations to avoid the hospital burden to SSIs include identify the presence of malnutrition adopting specific nutritional goals to preoperative and postoperative period.
