Estrada-Araoz E.G. · Gaceta Medica de Caracas (2024) · DOI: 10.47307/gmc.2024.132.3.2

Resumen

Introduction: Academic burnout is a common phenomenon among students facing high academic demands, stress, and pressure, and it can negatively impact their well-being and academic performance. Objective: To determine whether there is a relationship between academic burnout and students’eating habits at a private university. Methods: A quantitative, non-experimental, correlational, cross-sectional study was conducted. The sample consisted of 278 students who were administered the Maslach Burnout Inventory Student Survey and the Eating Habits Questionnaire, instruments with adequate content validity and reliability levels. Data were processed using SPSS version 25, and the relationship between study variables was identified using Spearman’s rho correlation coefficient. Results: It was found that the level of academic burnout characterizing the students was moderate, while the reported eating habits were predominantly inadequate. Additionally, Spearman’s rho correlation coefficient between academic burnout and eating habits was -0.549, and the p-value was below the significance level (p<0.05). Furthermore, it was found that female students reported better eating habits than male students. Conclusions: There is a relationship between academic burnout and students’ eating habits at a private university.
