Resumen

In the afternoon of August, a call for help from the Swiss embassy arrives at the EMS helicopter in Lima, Peru, for a mountaineer who is suffering from altitude sickness at an altitude of approximately 4600 m/15100 feet and a distance of approximately 450 km/280 miles. Due to the long distance, the Bell-212 helicopter is filled to the brim with fuel and loaded with three additional barrels (each 200 l) of jet fuel A 1. We unload the barrels of gasoline at a distance of approximately 60 km/37 miles from the site of emergency; the copilot also remains there because the site of emergency would be near the service peak altitude of approximately 5500 m/18000 feet of the helicopter. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer-Verlag GmbH, DE, part of Springer Nature 2023.
